Emergency Depressurization

An EBV installed in the line downstream of a pressure vessel usually reduces the pressure by venting the vapor-space gases to a flare or by dumping the contents. Normally, this EBV is opened slowly after other EBV’s isolate the vessel and before vessel’s pressure relief valve opens. (e.g., Installed on the outlet of high-pressure reactors, the valve depressurizes the reactor in the event of unsafe conditions.)
